12 Bible Verses about Morning and a Sunrise at Cadillac Mountain

Bible verses about morning are a blessing at any time, but they’re especially wonderful when served with a sunrise.
~

Rising two hours ahead of the sun isn’t part of my normal routine. Let’s just say it’s a bit uncomfortable. Especially when I am away on vacation. But, when in Maine, do as the Mainers do, right?! And, Maine’s outdoor enthusiasts say a sunrise at Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park is something quite spectacular and definitely worth an early wake-up call. So, as people with curious inclinations, my husband and I certainly did not want to miss the experience.

Making our way to Cadillac Mountain

Maine’s Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the eastern seaboard of the USA, and it is famous for being the first place to see the sunrise in our country between early October and early March. At the summit, visitors receive an amazing view as the sun begins to glow over a rocky coastal landscape and the Porcupine Islands of Frenchman Bay in the Atlantic Ocean. There are hiking trails to the mountain’s viewing area or a nearby parking lot for those, like myself, who don’t travel with a headlamp, suitable gear, or notions to walk in chilly darkness. I admire a hiker’s tenacity, but before sunrise you’ll find me on Team Parking Lot.

After finding our parking space, we squint into the blackness and search for a path or sign directing us which way to go. In the distance, we see a trail of shadowy figures walking with a purpose in mind, so we scramble to catch up and confirm our mutual destination. Soon, we come to an open area where others are already waiting in huddles across the uneven, granite terrain. A strong, cold wind is blowing. Bundling up, we sit close, and settle in to bear witness to this splendor called daybreak. Behind us, every once in awhile, a tired soul in need repeats her simple plea, “COFFEE.” Each time, we laugh, shiver, and continue waiting…

At Cadillac Mountain, the morning sun slowly comes up over a rocky coastal landscape and Frenchman Bay in the Atlantic Ocean.

Surprises when the sun comes up

When the first light shimmers over the horizon, we can finally see our surroundings more clearly. I say, “Oh, look, there’s water over there…and islands too! I had no idea we were sitting in front of all that!” As the sun continues to lift, vibrant colors mix into the clouds and the sky is painted like a canvas before our eyes. A stunning showpiece with hues of pink, orange, and yellow is created. It is a beautiful sight…everyone is quiet…and a Bible verse about morning comes into my mind:

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
Lamentations 3:22-23

I smile at this little wink from God and just sit still for awhile, soaking up the joy and serenity offered in the moment.

Morning’s significance to faith

There are many verses in the Bible referencing the morning and its significance to faith. Some morning verses call attention to the power and characteristics of our loving God. Others encourage prayer and a closer relationship with him. And, yet even more, highlight thankfulness for all he provides.

Morning’s importance in the Bible might lead us to wonder if God requires prayer and quiet time in the early hours. Spending time with God before the day’s obligations and distractions begin can instill a sense of peace and purpose, but there are no set rules or commands regarding this practice. In fact, the apostle Paul prayed day and night (Romans 1:9), and he encouraged devotion throughout the day (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Jesus hears our prayers and offers his presence readily at all times (1 John 5:14).

In seeking fellowship with the Lord, what matters most is not a set time on the clock, but the sincere desire of our hearts to be near him.
