Lord, Come Find Me: a prayer to meet with God

“Lord, come find me.” Just four words. A request to meet with God. They were short, simple, humbling words. Isn’t this how prayer so often begins?

I wrote those words in my journal shortly after Christmas when I decided to take a break from social media. At a time when I felt distant from God, the words “Lord, come find me” invited him close.

During the weeks that followed, I searched the Bible for verses about spending time with God and listening to him. I made a list of these verses and researched their meanings. Because I was in Florida at the time, I could reflect on what I learned in some beautiful surroundings. Gradually, as my list of applicable verses and reflections grew, so did my prayer.

All along the way, while searching, learning, and writing, I believe God met with me. The prayer below is a result of our time together. It could be that these words are intended just for me. But, I am sharing them here in case they might also benefit you.

Lord, Come Find Me: a prayer to meet with God

Lord, come find me listening
in the quiet,
where my world stands still.
Meet me in Scripture,
help me recognize your will.

Lord, come find me wondering,
“What happens next?”
Gather me in your arms,
show me how to catch my breath.

Lord, come find me praising!
In countless ways, you are good.
Train my soul to be thankful,
especially when
trouble is not understood.

Lord, come find me praying
first for wisdom,
then in faith.
Align my perspective with your will,
make holy glory my highest aim.

Lord, come find me confessing.
I have sins the Spirit helps me see.
Unentangled, I can freely chase
dreams you have conceived for me.

Lord, come find me serving
with character shaped by compassion.
Use me to encourage the church
in unique ways you have imagined.

Lord, come find me seeking
in nature,
in faces,
in words, circumstances, and places.
May your companionship be
the undaunted desire
for which my softened heart races.

Lord, come find me.
Sometimes you feel distant,
but you are never far away.
Jesus, find me leaning in close.
I will be whispering your name.
Amen.

  3. Wow. A beautiful poem that met me right where I am today. What a gift it is! Lord come, find me, … that I will know You even more.

  4. This is one of my favorite poems that you’ve written. I suppose because I ha a mathematical bent, the structure of the poem helps me understand and appreciate each stanza. Thanks again for sharing your heart.
