When I remember the people I love, I often recall something they said or did that impacted my life. Something that stayed with me, perhaps changed my perception on things, or inspired me to be a better person.
For example, whenever I became frustrated with someone and talked to my dad about it, he would simply say, “It takes all kinds of people to make the world go around.” Admittedly, those words did not immediately calm my aggravation, but they did stop my mind’s runaway train and help me think about what the other person’s point of view might be. My dad has passed away, but when I feel irritated or disappointed with someone, those words still ring in my ears and tell me to take a step back.
When I remember my Uncle Mick, who we fondly call Cowboy Mick, I think about him patiently teaching me how to ride a horse. I recall how much he enjoyed being together, sharing his talents, and giving me (a nonathletic kid) a sense of accomplishment. Later on, he happily did the same for my two kids (much more athletic). When Cowboy Mick died, I kept the saddle we all learned to ride on. A small business owner permanently installed it on top of a custom bar stool for me. Someday, I’ll hoist my grandchildren up on it and tell them stories about gentle horses named Rocky and Star, along with silly tales about an adorable colt named Buddy.
What reminds you of your loved ones? Our memories are powerful tools. They help us feel close to the ones we love even if they are no longer physically with us. This same logic about memories can be applied to the relationship we have with Jesus. Although we were not alive during Jesus’ time on earth, the Bible can fill our hearts with words and ways to remember him.
This Easter, spend time remembering Jesus. I’m certain something will stay with you, perhaps change your perception on things, or inspire you to be a better person. Understand his mission, appreciate his sacrifice, treasure his gifts. And, if you haven’t already, I pray you will accept him as your Savior. This is a poem I wrote while spending time remembering Jesus:
Come Remember Jesus
Come remember Jesus
Remember him at the Last Supper
Breaking bread, passing the cup of wine
Proclaiming his part in God’s plan of redemption
Promising final payment for the sins of humankind
Come remember Jesus
Remember him in the garden
Praying so earnestly his sweat contained blood
Kneeling in anguish
Knowing everything yet to come
Imploring, “Father, not my will, but yours be done”
Come remember Jesus
Remember him on the cross, our God in the flesh
Accepting the nails, thorns, mockery, shame
Bearing the world’s sin as he suffered forsaken
Shedding his innocent blood to forgive our names
Come remember Jesus
Remember him ALIVE outside of the tomb
Walking victorious over sin, evil, and death
Reconciling humanity’s eternal bond with God
Opening the door to new life and everlasting breath
Come remember Jesus
Accept him as your own personal Savior
Confess sins, receive forgiveness, enjoy his grace
Believe in him and this work he finished
Thank him and share your loving praise!

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
Romans 3:22-24
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
John 3:16-17
Press on in faith my friends! ~Jamie
